Vertigo (1958)

James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock is tha MAN.

Vertigo is about Detective John "Scottie" Ferguson. During a rooftop chase, he slips and nearly falls. A policeman tries to help him up, but ends up falling to his death himself. From this point on, Scottie is plagued by acrophobia (fear of heights).

He's forced into retirement by his disability, but an old friend comes to him and asks him for help -- he thinks his wife is being possessed. She's distant and seems to go into catatonic states from time to time. Her husband is afraid that she'll hurt herself if this continues.

Scottie, intrigued in spite of himself, begins to tail Madeleine around town and becomes obsessed with her.

I don't want to give away the whole story, but, MAN, Hitchcock is OSSOM BEYOND WORDS!!! The dream sequence is SO super-creepy -- SO many good, creepy scenes!!!

Suspense screenwriters today could learn a lot from watching old Hitchcock. SO OSSOM.
