I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with the Sex and The City TV series so I'll skip the summary of what the movie version is about. In other words I don't want to accidentally spill a spoiler for those who haven't seen it so I'll just break my review down to the Pros and Cons of the 148 minutes movie. How very Miranda of me.
Starting with the Pros:
From Yahoo! Movies
1. I came to the conclusion that Samantha Jones is NOW my favorite SATC character. First it was Miranda because I thought she was the most realistic in the TV series, but the movie version showcased Samantha's funny and vulnerable sides very well, which made the movie for me. Her one-liners had me laughing.
2. The clothes.
3. Lily, the cutest little girl in the world. Great casting choice.
4. In spite of past rumors that Kim and SJP didn't like each other, the girls were fighting, the chemistry amongst the girls is still there.
.
From Yahoo! Movies
5. The locations never fail to impress me.
And now the Cons:
1. Jennifer Hudson. The one thing that SATC has been criticized for was the lack of non-white characters in a show located to one of the most diverse city in the world. So here comes the addition of J. Hud as the sassy, black assistant. Alrighty then. I just wished the producers would have picked a better actress. I have always been suspicious of her acting ability and her role in SATC proved to me that her Oscar statue was a fluke and the votes were based on hype not the acting. I just kept rolling my eyes in every scene she was in.
"I came here to find love." Vomit inducing is the appropriate words to use.
2. Carrie. Just because she overreacts and tend to turn small things into the unnecessary bigger things. Example: Screaming at Miranda that Miranda was the one who ruined her marriage.
3. I didn't like that Carrie owed her life being turned around to J. Hud's character. I felt cheated because I think she should have experienced her life being turned around with Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. It just left a sore note to me.
4. 148 minutes. Enough said.
5. I didn't like how they changed up the theme song of SATC. I know they were trying to make it cooler and modern but SATC's original theme song makes me feel nostalgic every time I hear it, and I like that feeling.

Very good review, I'm still waiting for the premier in my country.
1Thanks. Very good review pink. Same as Analia, still waiting for the movie to premier in my country
2I liked the movie overall, I think it was hard to turn a half-hour show into a movie, and not lose a bit of the cleaver that made it great. And I agree it was entirely TOO long.
I understand why they wanted to and needed to bring a black character into the show, I found it odd there was never a black friend to begin with in NYC. I think they had no idea how to do that, that was the problem with Hudson's character. I think the part of written a bit half-a** and I don't think any actress could have made it work. But, that comes from writers who probably have no idea how to create a black female character. They tend to make her over the top with the sass imo.
Without blowing the ending, thats the part of the movie I took serious issue with, there is NOOO way on earth it would have ended like that, it lost all its realism at that point. She finds Big and all is forgiven, yeah, not gonna happen. There were some major plot issues they should have worked out better. And the outfits disappointed the hell out of me.
3I saw the movie last night and agree with a lot of your points. The movie was WAY too long, and with all the money the poured into it, they could've done a better job of keeping the background music in the background and not having the dialogue get eaten up by in a lot of scenes.
I liked the assistant character but Jennifer Hudson was just so-so in it.
Overall, I thought it was a so-so movie, but those girls are like old friends, and it was great to see them all again, so enjoyable on that front.
4Thanks for the review! I just saw the movie today and agree with most of your points, actually. I really enjoyed most of it, especially Kristin Davis, who was hilarious! My only really big issue with it is the Miranda/Steve storyline. I won't give away any spoilers but that whole situation was out of character and ticked me off.
5you're welcome ladies.
oooo, yes yiddidea the steve/miranda thing was just so out of character. there were many things that the writer could use in their storyline BUT they come up with THAT!like wtf?
6Wonderful review.
I will not being go to the theather for this (I'll rent it in a few months since I do love the series.) There are other films I would rather see this summer (Sandler's Zohan,
7Tropic Thunder, Dark Knight, Burn After Reading) however I cannot wait until I can rent SATC.
^ THEATER not theather.
8Jennifer Hudson did an alright job for the part. I don't think she was given a lot to work with on that character. As far as the assistant changing her life, I didn't see it that way. I just saw it as her getting the help she needed. She was still the same woman in the end.
I agree that the movie was too long. I still enjoyed it though.
The main thing I hated was the Carrie/Big thing. I think it would have had to take SO much more work to be forgiven like that.
As far as Miranda/Steve goes, I don't really see it being out of character because he's human. No matter how great he can be, there is always room for a mistake.
9i loved the movie. i liked jennifer hudson, but her accent seemed a little southern to me at times and not st. louis. carrie was being ridiculous with blaming miranda. i didn't like how they talked to samantha like she was obese for her pooch she developed by using food in place of cheating. that was a little much. the miranda and steve thing happens all the time. a marriage can't always handle a dry spell like that without some sort of consequence in my opinion.
10i loved it..all of it
11it was just an amazing experience for me
Oh, I just saw this last night- finally! Worth the wait. No spectacular story line but it was so nice to sit back with the girls and watch their chemistry and dynamic reappear- this time on the big screen. I loved the outfits and the look of it all. It was so nice to see that the women have aged a bit and not trying to hang on to their youth. Really refreshing.
12I loved that Samantha was so true to herself and just had to go back to being Samantha.
Poor Steve, I just felt bad for the guy. Yeah, he cheated but that did seem out of character for him- thank goodness they didn't show him with someone else.
It was very long but I loved it- I felt like I was watching a SATC marathon. I was just giddy throughout
I dying to watch this movie!

13Great review. I finally watched this movie the other day and totally agree.
14Miranda's "I eat so I don't cheat" quote made me laugh hysterically.
