What do you get when you take Dawn of the Dead, The Fog, and Alien? A pretty decent movie, actually. The Mist is a 2007 film based on a short story by Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont. A freakish storm causes destruction in a small town and as the townspeople gather in a local store to get supplies, a strange mist decends upon them...and there's something in the mist.

Like I said, this was a pretty good movie. I'm not sure I would want to watch it over and over, but it's worth renting. The acting is pretty good, there are some jumpy moments, and a good bit of commentary on what happens when you trap a bunch of scared people together and take away their hope. The ending certainly wasn't pleasant, but I kinda knew what was coming. I've heard that the ending of the story is better, but upon looking it up, American movie audiences wouldn't have stood for it. It has the unseen threat thing of the Fog (well, and the foggy atmosphere), the trapped with nowhere to go but toward death thing of the Dawn of the Dead, and the monsters that, for some reason, reminded me of Alien. Of course, it wasn't nearly as good as these movies. Marcia Gay Harden was especially good in this movie; as was the little kid.
