The Heartbreak Kid is a new Farelly Bros. film starring Ben Stiller as a marriage phobic man who thinks he's met the girl of his dreams and marries her, only to find that she's a nightmare. His dilema is made worse when he actually does meet the girl of his dreams while still on his honeymoon.
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a huge Ben Stiller fan. I just don't find him that funny. So, if you love Ben Stiller, you'll probably like this movie more than I did.
Anyhoo, it had it's moments. There were funny parts. Jerry Stiller was hilarious as usual. However, most of the film is just Ben Stiller being abused or stuttering. It feels suspiciously like Meet the Parents 3, in which a regular guy (Stiller) is tossed into a situation with people who are basically insane and proceeds to get injured multiple times and stutter a lot. Now, I admit that worked in Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, but it doesn't work here. I think the problem with this formula in this film is that there's no real straight man. Some of the funniest moments in comedies come not from the schtick guy but the normal person. In the Meet the Parents movie, there was not only Stiller who was "normal" but also his fiancee and the mother (who was great). That was lacking here. I mean, the girl that he's in love with is definately the straightman, but she's not given a lot of chances to shine (which is sad because I think her character could have been good).
Everything just felt a little too much like they were trying to be funny. If you LOVE Ben Stiller, give it a watch. If you're not a fan or not a very devoted fan, you're not gonna die if you don't watch it.

Marni
I thought parts of it were funny, but overall it was just another typically Ben Stiller movie, which I don't really care for.
1I like Ben Stiller so I'll probably catch this when it goes on HBO or Showtime; I love meet the parents however I haven't liked a few of his last films, so I wouldn't buy it on pay-per-view.
2i went to cinema for Ben Stiller..cause i know whether the scenario is good or not Ben Stiller makes it wonderful
